The Lesson of the 8-Bit Crab

As someone who works with clients on a regular basis, I know that my job is to give the client what they want. But what do you do when the client doesn't know what they want? In that situation, I realized my job is to give the client something they can't live without.

Recently, Red Byrd had a consultation with the Baltimore Technology Professionals about designing a new logo. They knew they needed a new design, but BTP had no idea what direction they wanted to take. Various ideas were exchanged, but nothing seemed to stick. As a joke, someone suggested an 8-bit crab due to Baltimoreans' obsession with the crustacean.

That joke turned into the BTP 8-bit Crab.

The client loved it. We loved it, and it's now something I'm proud to have had a hand in. The lesson here is to talk it out when things are undecided. Who knows when the silliest suggestion just might be the best idea.
